Mount K2, also known as Chhogori, is the second highest peak in the world. Unfortunately, it is not immune to the effects of climate change. Rising temperatures have led to the melting of glaciers in the Karakoram Range, where K2 is located. This has resulted in an increased risk of avalanches and rockfall, making the ascent of K2 even more dangerous. Additionally, the changing climate has altered weather patterns, leading to unpredictable and severe storms in the region. These environmental changes have made climbing K2 more challenging and have increased the need for careful planning and preparation. It is crucial that we address climate change to protect this iconic mountain and its delicate ecosystem.
